Her father put her in charge of the labyrinth where sacrifices were made as part of reparations (either to Poseidon or to Athena, depending on the version of the myth); however, she would later help the hero Theseus in overcoming the Minotaur and saving the would-be sacrificial victims. Theseus later promises to marry her but leaves her on the island of Naxos where she is then found crying by the god Dionysus. Dionysus falls in love with her and vice versa and they get married making her a semi-goddess. However, this is only one of the many myths surrounding Ariadne.
After Theseus abandoned her on Naxos, the god Dionysus came to her and married her. She had (I believe) three sons and lived happily ever after as a goddess.
