it depended on when it was built- the earlier temples were made out of adobe or wood and then replaced maybe hundreds of years later. the temple of Hera at Olympia had originally wooden columns but were slowly replaced with limestone local to the area

other temples used marble shipped from hundreds of miles away, like the Temple of Athena on the acropolis. it depended on what was near and how much they could afford.
