I have been led to believe that Odysseus' most difficult journey was the one back home. He had to battle a cyclops, listen to beautiful voices and keep himself on the boat. That could not have been easy for him.
He never does physical battle with any gods, but his main conflict is with Poseidon, God of the Sea. He does however do battle with several non-human creatures, such as the cyclops Polyphemus, the sea-serpent Scylla, and guards of the Underworld.
There are two epics of Homer, The Odyssey and The Iliad. The Iliad describes the battle of Troy. The Odyssey takes place after the battle and follows Odysseus's trials and voyage home.

The battle with the Cyclops.
I wouldn't call it a battle, per se, but Polyphemus was the Cyclops that imprisoned Odysseus and his men. Odysseus put out his eye and tricked the giant into saying that No Man hurt him when calling for aid.

Odysseus shows his bravery by leading his men into battle against formidable foes like the Cyclops and the suitors in his palace. His intelligence is demonstrated through his cleverness and strategic thinking, such as when he devises the plan to escape from the Lotus-eaters or outwit the Sirens.
Odysseus cuts 6 feet off a green olive trunk that Polyphemus is intending to use for a staff. He tells his men to sharpen the trunk. Finally, Odysseus himself sharpens the wood to a sharp point. He then hides the giant wooden stake in the cave.
