To our way of thinking, Cleopatra would have been very arrogant and demanding of her underlings. This was because she was an eastern queen and her customs, traditions and the times in which she lived were different from ours. She was also a manipulative person. As Plutarch states, she could make herself agreeable in any circumstances. Those circumstances were always self-serving. In other words, Cleopatra was not particularly intelligent, but she was clever and used her charm to manipulate others of her same rank, such as Caesar and Antony, while being and demanding of her underlings.
