some say she was banished to the island of Hyperborea, some say the Isle of the Gorgons, but almsot all references just say and Island by the sea.
Athena punishes alot of people. For one, she punished Medusa for dating with Poseidon in her temple, which is VERY, EXTREMELY rude for a goddess. She couldn't punish her uncle( poseidon) so she punished Medusa, and Medusa's hair turned to snakes.
Medusa was once a priestess in the Temple of Athena. She was renowned for her beauty, but had taken a vow of chastity because her patron goddess, Athena, was also the Goddess of Virgins. According to legend, she was raped inside the Temple of Athena by the god Poseidon. Since this behaviour was expected of Poseidon, Athena blamed Medusa for the rape, and the desecration of her temple, and punished her accordingly. Basically victimizing her (Medusa) a second time.

The climax of the story of Medusa and Athena occurs when Medusa, once a beautiful priestess of Athena, is punished by the goddess for being violated by Poseidon in Athena's temple. Athena punished Medusa because Medusa thought she was better and more beautiful than the ancient Greek god so Athena cursed Medusa. However, there are many different versions of this story. Another one is : Medusa wanted to be the Queen of something, ( queen of the seas is my guess. ) So, she planned on ruling all of it by herself. So she put Poseidon in chains ( because when a god is in chains, all of their power is lost. Of course until they are released. ) and hid him. Soon, Athena found out, and punished her. BTW Medusa was very beautiful. This story is like Andromeda. ( I recommend learning about it )
Medusa was once a beautiful woman, worshiping the goddess Athena. Then a God, named Poseidon, noticed her beauty and raped her. When Medusa begged Athena for help, Athena instead punished Medusa because in her mind it should be Medusa who should be punished (Athena was jealous of Medusa, and apparently to the Gods its perfectly okay to allow an innocent woman to be raped and then punished for being the victim)
She was, before Athena punished her.
she punished the princess and medusa
Her punishment was her hair turning into snakes by Athena.

Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom, did because Medusa said she was prettier than Athena (Medusa used to be beautiful), so Athena punished her with ugliness. Another version of this myth is that Medusa was a lover of Poseidon and Athena was a little jealous (though she was a virgin goddess). When they went to her temple together, Athena was insulted and made Medusa and her two sisters hideous.

Who said that? Athena didn't hate Medusa.Medusa was a very pretty woman, she was athena's servant, but all of Athena's servants had to take a vow to never love, have kids, or marry. one day in Athena's temple, Poseidon raped Medusa, she didn't do anything, he did it, but he was a fellow god, so in Athena's eyes, he could do no wrong, so in that one moment of rage, she punished Medusa.
In Greek mythology, Medusa and the Gorgons were punished by Athena for desecrating her temple by engaging in a romantic encounter with Poseidon. Athena transformed Medusa and her sisters into hideous creatures with snakes for hair and the power to turn anyone who gazed upon them into stone as a form of retribution for their actions. This punishment served as a warning to others about the consequences of disrespecting the gods and their sacred spaces in Greek mythology.
