Estebanico, also known as Esteban the Moor, was born in present-day Morocco around the late 15th century. He was enslaved and brought to the Spanish colony of Florida in 1527 as part of an expedition led by Pánfilo de Narváez. Estebanico became one of the first known Africans to explore North America and is notable for his role as a guide and interpreter during subsequent expeditions. His journey significantly contributed to the European understanding of the southwestern United States.
