Shoes came from the same place that clothes came from. There is a saying that goes something like this and I'm sorry, I don't know who said it. "Necessity is the mother of invention". This means that everything that has been invented was done so because somebody needed something. They saw a need and they worked on fulfilling it. When people used to walk and hurt their feet on the rocks or winter hit and their feet grew cold they knew that they needed to put something between their feet and the ground. It probably started out as animal skins tied around the feet and later got refined to sandals and then slowly to the shoes that we have today. Contrary to some peoples beliefs shoes did not "evolve". Man changed the style as new materials became available.
