Julenissen, or the Christmas gnome, originates from Scandinavian folklore, particularly in Norway and Denmark. Traditionally, he is depicted as a small, bearded man who brings gifts to children during the Christmas season, akin to Santa Claus. The character is rooted in ancient Norse mythology and agricultural practices, where he was believed to protect farms and livestock. Over time, Julenissen has evolved into a beloved figure in modern Christmas celebrations in the region.

Julenissen (Santa)
If you by "Julesvann" mean "Santa Claus" (in Norwegian: Julenissen, pronounced: "Youlenissen" (short "i", like in "kid")), the Norwegian Julenissen (presumably living at the North Poke), brings gifts to all children. The children get their Christmas presents on December 24th, in the evening. It is usually Christmas wish. Usually, the kids wish for one thing, whereas the presents turn out to be slightly more sensible, like warm clothing... :-). Grown-ups get presents as well, all though usually not quite as many as the children get.
Santa Claus (Julemanden in danish) or his helpers, the pixies (nisserne).
Christmas is celebrated in the evening of the 24th of December, and Santa Claus is looking the same.. He is called "Julemanden", but besides that, he's no different than the Santa Claus in USA
