The only ancient Greek comedian whose works survive is Aristophanes; eleven of his 40 or so plays remain. He wrote plays poking fun at contemporary life and famous figures at the time. His play "The Clouds" made fun of Socrates, and the satire was so vicious that Plato claimed the play caused Socrates to be executed. Much of Aristophanes' humor is crude, even disgusting, but much of it is still funny today; for example, in "The Birds", he lampoons lawyers and the tendency of ancient Athenians to sue over even the smallest insult.
When it became a radical democracy the (adult male) citizens met in fortnightly assembly and made decisions which were implemented by the Council. The citizens also formed the law courts - there were no judges or lawyers.

In England and Wales stipendiary magistrates are professional lawyers who are paid (receive a stipend) to perform the duties otherwise done by unpaid lay magistrates (justices of the peace). In some major cities, such as London, all the magistrates are stipendiary.
A magistrates court is a court that deals with smaller crimes. They would generally deal with local cases, and if the cases dealt with are quite serious, they would be sent off to the high courts. Some of the people involved with the magistrates court are the three magistrates, who act as judges, but are members of the public. Three witnesses, one defence, and two prosecuting. One defendant, who is accused of the crime. Two defence lawyers, two prosecuting lawyers, so four lawyers in total. A victim, and more. There is no jury in a magistrates court, and no official judge. hope this helped xx <3 xx
No they did not have lawyers because when they went to be judged they had to talk for themselves and the emperor made the final decision
Magistrates courts deal primarily with the less severe of cases (drunkenness minor assaults etc) - However, their sentencing powers are limited. They also hear more severe cases, then refer them to Crown court because the possible sentence for being found guilty is higher than they can impose.

No, the juries were usually of 500 people, with no judges or lawyers to interfere. With about 35,000 citizens, it was effectively an opinion poll in today's terms.

The "profession" of any Lawyer is exactly that: lawyer/attorney (same thing). Lawyers in the field of criminal justice can specifically work as defense lawyers (either privately, as part of a contract, or for a Public Defender's office or association), or prosecution lawyers (district attorneys, attorneys general, department of justice attorneys/federal prosecutors, or "special prosecutors" appointed by Congress). Lawyers can also be judges, magistrates, or clerks. In the United Kingdom, criminal attorneys are called "barristers."

The profession of lawyer dates back to ancient Greece when the orators demonstrated many of the qualities of lawyers today. Initially, laws in ancient Athens required that complainants plead their own cases. This eventually changed, and others were allowed to plead the case on their behalf. However, none of the orators could charge a fee.
