What was the Patronymic name for mythical Greek hero Heracles?

Alcides.

What are the other names Hercules is know by?

Hercules is also known by his Roman name, Hercule, and in Greek mythology, he is referred to as Heracles. Additionally, he is sometimes called Alcides, which is derived from his maternal grandfather, Alcaeus. These names reflect his heroic status and varied cultural representations throughout ancient literature and mythology.

Why did Hercules perform the labors?

From the moment of his birth, the goddess Hera had it in for Heracles (Hercules in Latin). Even renaming him to "Hera's Glory" wasn't enough to appease the Queen of the Gods ( he was originally named Alcides). As he grew older, she found a way to get even. Hera gave Heracles a madness that enraged him into killing his own children. Once cured of the madness, he realized what he had done, so he consulted an Oracle. The oracle, guided by Hera, told him that he needed to travel to the court of King Eurystheus. There, he was given the penance of ten labours, tasks which were meant to be impossible. In the end, two were added because he received help killing the Hydra, and he was paid for cleaning the Augean Stables.

Are Heracles and Hercules the same person?

No Persues is the son of Zeus and Danae while Hercules(Properly spelled Heracles in the Greek version) is the son of Zeus and Alcmene. Persues is well known for Slaying the Gorgon Medusa and using her head to defeat the Kraken and save his future wife Andromeda. Heracles on the other hand is best known for his 12 labors. Heracles' actual birth name was Alcides, and it was later changed to Heracles as an attempt by Alcmene to placate Hera and beg forgiveness for Zeus' infidelity.
