She was famed for her beauty, which led her mother to boast that Andromeda was more beautiful than the sea nymphs, angering the sea god Poseidon. To appease Poseidon and save their kingdom, Andromeda was chained to a rock as a sacrifice to a sea monster. She was ultimately rescued by the hero Perseus, who defeated the monster and later married her.
