Athena helps Telemachus by telling him that his father is not dead. She also tells him to seek information about his father from Menelaus and King Nestor.

Athena tells Odysseus to reveal his identity to Telemachus, as there is no point in keeping it hidden from him. Telemachus can also help his father on his quest for vengeance, as he is completely trustworthy.
Athena transforms Odysseus and makes him appear majestic so much so that Telemachus mistakes Odysseus for a god. Odysseus tells Telemachus that he is indeed his father, and it takes a little time for him to convince him of this.

Odysseus left Calypso's island when Athena told Zeus(her father) that he had been left there and was longing to his return to Ithaca and to see his wife Penelope and his son Telemachus. So Zeus sent Hermes to tell Calypso to let him go after ten years of being on the island. When she realizes that she can't defy the Gods, she tells Odysseus to make a large raft and sail to Ithaca. At first he doesn't believe her to have good intentions for him until she swears upon the river Styx that she will aid him in setting sail.

Hermes flies in and tells her. Calypso becomes furious at their request and calls the gods jealous that she was sleeping with a mortal man when they slept with mortal women all the time. She still helps Odysseus leave, however. Athena was the one who wanted Odysseus off the island, not Zeus. Zeus simply complied with her wishes.
