Who was Matelleus?

I understand that my deceased grandfather's real name was Earl Matelleus, not Earl Frazier that I always thought. I heard he gave himself the name Frazier, but his biological father's name was Matellus. I've never heard of anyone with this last name Metelleus! Are there any people out there with that last name? Just curious!
