Hades is Persephone's husband. Persephone was promised to Hades as his bride, by her father Zeus. But Zeus neglected to inform both Persephone and her mother Demeter of this arrangement. It was Greek tradition for the husband to claim his new bride and carry her away to live at his home.. so this is exactly what Hades did. He burst forth from the Underworld to claim Persephone; but to Persephone she had no idea what was happening and it turned into an abduction. She was horribly upset for quite some time, but I do believe she warmed up to him after a while and has come to love him as her husband.
