King Midas. He was given the golden touch by Dionysus because that is what he wished for. When he realized what a mistake it was, he had to beg him to take it back and make everything back to the way it was.

Midas of Pessinus, in Phrygia. He had been granted this gift by Dionysus,
the god of wine, because he had given shelter to Dionysus' teacher and foster father, Silenus. Midas loved his gift at first, until he found that his food and drink, too,
turned to gold. Then when he touched his daughter, she became a statue
as well. He then begged Dionysus to free his from his cursed gift.
Thereafter, now hating all wealth, Midas went to live in the country as
a worshiper of Pan.
He was King Midas. Often referred to nowadays as the golden touch, or the Midas touch, for someone who is lucky with money.

I'm not sure what would make you think it didn't. Remember that in story telling, some things are assumed. Once it was established that everything he touched turned to gold, you don't need to keep saying that the things he touched turn to gold. It can be assumed.
