they formed the delian league because they had to join toegether to defeat the Persians
It is true that about 180 Greek city-states formed the Delian League to protect themselves from Persian rule. Not sure why 'why' would be 'true of false'.
When Xerxes I's father Darius I died, he took first suppressed a rebellion in Egypt, then took over his father's project of absorbing the Greek cities of mainland Greece into the Empire to stop them interfering in the Empire and disrupting peace. He bribed the Greek city-states to submit, and led an expedition to suppress those who would not submit. This invasion failed so he set about consolidating the Empire as it was. The Greek cities in Asia Minor were led by Athens to form the Delian League, and this was successful in keeping Persia at bay for the rest of Xerxes' lifetime.

It was primarily the city - state of Athens that formed the Delian League which was a loose coalition of other Greek city - states (Polis) to thwart Persian expansionist policies . Below at the related link is a list of Delian members .
There were several - Delian League, Peloponnesian League, Achaean League, Ionian League, Aetolian League, Beotian League etc, etc.
Yes, but Sparta was not included in the Delian League - it was a member of the Peloponnesian League.
yes
The Peloponnesian League was created by Sparta and its allies to dominate trade and government in the Greek city-states.
The Athenians formed the Delian League.
The power of the Athenian led Delian league and to curb the power of Argos and Corinth. "Sparta formed its Pelopnnesian League, motivated at least partly by Athen's use of Delian League funds to rebuild its Acropolis"
After the Persian invasion was repelled by the coalition of southern Greek cities, Sparta wanted to evacuate the cities in Asia Minor back to Greece to avoid further clashes with the persian Empire. Athens had a better idea - to form a league of Greek city-states in Asia Minor and the Islands against Persian intervention. Sparta was having problems with its restive serf population at home and did not join the Delian League. Athens later turned the League into an empire of its own, and lived high on the proceeds.
It provided the main part of the naval forces in the resistance to Persian attacks. After peace was made with the Persian Empire, Athens continued to collect the financial contributions for the League, by force where necessary, and used it for its own purposes, effectively turning it into an empire of its own.
It was formed after the Persian invasion of mainland Greece was turned back. The Greek city-states in Asia Minor and the Islands which had been liberated from Persian rule needed protection and Athens formed them into a defensive League to protect them from Persia re-imposing its rule. The treasury to hold the members' contributions to pay for the League's naval forces was held in the Temple of Apollo on the island of Delos, from which came the modern name we give to it - the Delian League.
