In one legend, I am not sure of it's origin, Hera threw Hephaestus off of Mount Olympus, because she was so shocked of how ugly he was.
Another legend, from Homer's The Iliad suggests that Zues threw Hephaestus off of Mount Olympus when Hephaestus tried to help Hera, against Zeus's wishes.
Hera threw him off stuff
Hephaestus didn't leave Mount Olympus, his mother, Hera, was so ashamed by his ungodly looks that she threw him straight off of Mount Olympus. When Athena was born from Zeus' mind, Hera's jealousy got the better of her. She thought that, if Zeus could make a child just by brains, so could she. The result was Hephaestus, who is told to be the ugliest god there ever was on Mount Olympus.
Hera threw her son Hephaestus off Mount Olympus because he was born deformed and she was ashamed of him. In some myths, it is said that she was angry that he did not meet her expectations of beauty and perfection. After his fall, Hephaestus landed on the island of Lemnos, where he was cared for and eventually became the god of blacksmiths and craftsmen. This act of rejection highlights Hera's complex character and her struggles with maternal expectations.
Hera threw Hephaestus off the Mount Olympus because he wasn't as good looking as their other children. Since he was still a god he didn't die but instead became somewhat crippled.
Hephaestus was born from Hera and Zeus and had a birth defect so they threw him out of Mount Olympus and his fall caused his grotesque appearance.

Hephaestus is basically a loner. He is the ugliest of the gods, and he is the son of Hera. I guess he would be closest to her, but she threw him off the side of Mount Olympus for being ugly.
