Because if they did it would kill him and they wouldn't be able to get out of the cyclops's cave because of an enormous stone blocking the way of the entrance.
He and his men stabbed the cyclops in the eye and crawled out covered in sheep hydes so the cyclops would think they were just his livestock and not kill them.
Some versions say Odysseus didn't tell the cyclops his name, here is one version.Odysseus told the cyclops his name was Nobody. He told this to the cyclops named Polyphemus as part of his plan to kill the cyclops who was holding him in the cave, his men. Then, on the morning when Odysseus attacked Polyphemus in his single eye, the cyclops gave a great painful bellow which woke up the neighboring cyclops. They raced to the cave and yelled to Polyphemus "Why did you wake us up so early? How is hurting you?", to which Polyphemus answered "It's Nobody! Nobody is hurting me!"The other cyclops answered "Well, if nobody is you, then why did you wake us up at this ungodly hour? You should pray to Poseidon, go to sleep, and let the rest of us sleep."Odysseus was able to kill the cyclops Polyphemus without interference from the other cyclops living nearby due to his trickery of telling the cyclops his name was Nobody. Most versions say however, that Odysseus told Polyphemus his name was nobody, so that when Polyphemus cried out for help, while Odysseus was shoving a stake into his eye, his fellow cyclopes would think that no one was attacking him. But then once Odysseus had escaped Polyphemus and got onto his boat, he cried out 'My name is Odysseus. The great Odysseus has blinded you.' Odysseus probably said this because he was a bit cocky from his victory and he just wanted the cyclops to know who had defeated him. Polyphemus then asked his father Poseidon to curse Odysseus, which Poseidon did do, not allowing Odysseus to reach Ithaca for 10 years.
he was a hero to many people even though he had men who died trying to get home to there familys he didnt just say oh well he cared because in his heart they were like family to him and thats what made him a hero.
In the epic poem "The Odyssey," Odysseus introduces himself and his group to Polyphemus as "Nobody." This clever ruse allows Odysseus to deceive the Cyclops when he asks who has blinded him. By claiming that "Nobody" has harmed him, Polyphemus's cries for help go unanswered. This strategic introduction showcases Odysseus's cunning and resourcefulness in navigating dangerous situations.
He is cursed because he blinds Polyphemus, the cyclops, and Polyphemus just happens to be Posiedons son. Posiedon gets really mad at him and vows that he will return home a broken crew-less man, if he returns at all. So he causes a lot of trouble for Odysseus because in order to get home he must travel on the sea, which also happens to be Posiedon's realm.
Cause he just does
I thought this was a stupid decision. Odysseus knew what the cyclops could do to him. He also knew that he had really ticked off the cyclops. By taunting him from his ship, he just made him more upset and almost killed his crew, as well as himself. Also by doing this, he got himself cursed by Posiden. I hope this helped!
Odysseus is curious as to the type of person the cyclops is, so he decides to wait with his men inside the cave. He also would like gifts from the cyclops as per the custom of giving gifts to visitors at that time.
He and his men stabbed the cyclops in the eye and crawled out covered in sheep hydes so the cyclops would think they were just his livestock and not kill them.

In "The Odyssey," Odysseus demonstrates his cleverness by figuring out a way to escape the Cyclops that wants to eat them. He first stabs the monster in its one eye, then he and his crew wrap themselves in sheepskins. This allowed escape because the Cyclops thought they were just his livestock.
If I recall correctly, Odysseus was shouting insults back at the Cyclops. This would show that he is arrogant. I also remember that he receives his just desserts when the Cyclops throws a giant boulder at his ship.
Well, honey, in Homer's epic poem "The Odyssey," the Cyclops Polyphemus gobbled up Odysseus' men in Book 9. Odysseus and his crew made the mistake of entering Polyphemus' cave, where they were trapped and became the giant's dinner. Just remember, never trust a one-eyed monster with a taste for sailors!
Odysseus encourages his men by reminding them of their victory against Polyphemus, the Cyclops, and telling them that they will be just as victorious this day as they were then. Odysseus gives them orders and tells them to trust in his leadership.
Oh, dude, Nohbody is actually a clever alias used by Odysseus when he blinds the Cyclops Polyphemus in The Odyssey. It's like a classic case of mistaken identity, you know? Polyphemus yells for help, saying "Nohbody is hurting me!" and everyone just thinks he's losing it. Classic Odysseus, always one step ahead with those sneaky pseudonyms.
The phrase "fair traffic" can refer to the concept of just and equitable exchange or trade. In Greek mythology, the Cyclops asks these questions to understand if Odysseus and his men have come as friends or foes, as their intentions will determine the Cyclops' response.
