Because it was the war between the Trojans and the greeks, the two most powerful forces at the time. It also was the time when the Greek poet Homer depicted that the greeks made a horse in the middle of the war in order to trick their roman opponents. They had to first destroy the three magical barriers that guarded the city from any intruders. After the greeks got into the city, they killed most of the population in their sleep because after they delivered the horse, the romans through a party, so they were extremely drunk. After they murdered most of the population, the royal people of troy were murdered and only one famous royal roman survived, Aeneas.
