gars make excellent pet fish if your looking for a prehistoric fish these are it. i used to have 5 at one time now i have none and i am debating on getting more again. you should go with a Florida gar or a spotted gar as the other species can get fairly large. i wouldnt reccomend anything smaller than a 180 gallon or 220 gallon tank for them depending on the footprint and size of the gar. most can be trained to eat pellets once they get some size to them. i also would reccomend using a decholrinator with them or an ro unit. they live along time too.
