Free enterprise means competition between companies in a fair and competitive marketplace. Free enterprise was dealt a crushing blow in the United States when anti-trust legislation was abolished during the Reagan presidency, thus allowing huge mega-corporations to eliminate competition by buying it out or merging with it. As often as not, although there appear to be competing brands in the marketplace, those brands are actually ultimately owned by the same company.
