A giraffe is prey for the lion which is the predator. Lions do not generally hunt giraffe because the risk of injury is higher than that of hunting animals such as zebra or wildebeests. But lions that live in different areas have very different hunting habits. Like on the Serengeti lions prefer wildebeests and zebra and in Manyara Park, Cape buffalo are the main animal hunted. This is a line from the Wikipedia site: For instance, in Kruger National Park, giraffes are regularly hunted. You are more than welcome to look it up, just search for lion in the search box. If lions do hunt a giraffe the giraffe would of course run and defend itself by kicking and swinging its neck. At the top of the head are two short horns that are hard and can cause damage and the necks are very muscular and can cause injury as well.
