Well usually elephants aren't exposed to cold weather but if there was, since the females walk in herds then they would all walk closely together. But needless to say if it was cold all the time then they might come extinct or grow hair like their earlier relatives the mammoth. That would be the only way.

Elephants have several methods of adapting to a warmer climate:

• Baby elephants stand in the shade of their mothers, which helps protect their tender skin and keep them cooler. Adult elephants also stand under trees so the shade can help keep them cool.
• Elephants fan their ears, which helps cool the blood as it circulates, therefore cooling their entire body.
• Their wrinkles in their skin retain moisture, so as it slowly evaporates it helps to cool them.
• They use their trunks to spray their body with water, which also cools them.
• They use their trunks to cover themselves with dust, which protects them from the sun. It also helps protect them from insect bites, as well.
• They lie in pools of water, which cools them much the same as it does humans.
