How do you care for an abandoned Cedar Waxwing fledgling?

I have a female in my tree she sleeps there and eats there, I do not see her parents at all I have been getting frozen mice from the pet store and warming them up NOT IN MICROWAVE but, in water, she eats from my hand, this is still a wild bird so I do limited intraction with her. I feel very lucky to have this moment in my life, I have been told that she will fly when she is ready.

If they're young, you can make a nest by grabbing a basket or bowl and filling it with Kleenex. make sure you tuck them in so they can't fall out!

A great food for any baby bird is a mushy cat or dog food mixed with hard boiled egg yolk and baby cereal. Add warm water to give the bird some liquid and to make the food slightly more runny. Grab a small syringe to drop to food in with.

If the baby is very weak, rub the syringe on the outer edge of his beak to show him you have food. When he begins to nibble it, he should soon have enough strength to open his mouth. If he still won't eat as much, try to simulate a nest. Move one of the Kleenexes against his back to make him feel like he has siblings near by, and take the syringe away to make him feel like others are having a turn. He should soon regain full strength. Do this every hour, or whenever the bird begins to open it's beak again.

When he's bigger, and is beginning to get his flight feathers, it's good to teach him how to survive in the wild. Get sticks for him to perch on, and find out what he will eat and bury it in his enclosure. If he's having trouble you can help him a little bit, but the more you help him, the harder life in the wild will be when you release him.

Lastly, not all babies will reach full growth. Some mothers will push their babies out if they carry disease. Others might even push the baby out of the nest only to lose track of it. It's always a good idea to try and put the bird back where it was and watch to see if the mom comes back for the baby. If you do not have enough time for a baby bird, seek professional help.
