Persuade the bird that 1) you're not going to grab it and eat it; 2) it can find food there. Depending on how wary the bird is normally, it's going to require a small amount of food and a large amount of patience. One tip: if one does land, or seems about to, don't swallow; to a small animal, that means you're moistening your mouth for a bite.

It's all in the training, repeating over and over. When your holding your bird and the bird tries to fly away just get the bird and put it back, eventually it will get the idea. This being said I always stress if your going outside your home please have your bird on a harness and leash! No matter how well the bird is trained something can always spook it and the natural instinct of a bird it to fly away
