Some breeds of dogs have stronger odors than others (especially males.) It's because their coat is oily and if not bathed enough their fur begins to smell. If an owner allows their dogs to wander they can often run in packs (generally males) and come home smelling like a skunk! Dogs should be bathed once to twice a month during summer. I use an oatmeal shampoo (nice smell to it) which makes the skin healthy and the coat shiny. I don't always use a blow dryer on my smaller dogs and let them air dry because blow drying can cause dry skin. In winter months dogs should be bathed (depending whether they are hunting dogs, outdoor dogs or a family indoor pet) once a month to every 2 - 3 months, but please keep the dog inside to keep warm and dry off well. As far as doggie odor in your home use Febreze spray. I put blankets on all my couches and my husband's chair during the week and of course take them off when guests come. The Febreze spray is excellent! Do carpets with it as well and anywhere your dog has been.
