A more specific question would be helpful, but either way here is what I have learned. In the last 30, years African Lion populations have plummeted from approximately 450,00 down to approximately 20,000. Out of those approximately 20,000 individuals, only about 4,000 are male lions.

This dramatic decrease in population is attributed to the following factors... 1. Loss of habitat due to increased human population, therefore confining lions to highly dense populations. This in turn, causes inbreeding and the likelihood of a disease to spread. The lack of genetic variation causes inbreeding. The offspring of inbreeding, rarely if ever survive. 2. Being over-hunted prior to any enforcement of laws or regulations. They are now a "Protected Species". However POACHING or illegally hunting them remains a common issue despite the protection enforcement.

The African Lions are a "Keystone Species". They are also the "Apex Predator" of the African ecosystem. If African lions become extinct, their entire habitat and ecosystem will eventually become extinct as well. All organisms will perish as well. Over time, that could include the inhabiting humans.

That's how I know there is a problem with the endangerment of the African Lion. (At the very least, that is my hypothesis.) I'm no scientist, but these facts are credible.
