A stingray is born alive, a fully developed but much smaller version of an adult. The mother holds the eggs inside of her while the babies develop and hatch, but is not connected to them through a placenta, as mammals are.
One of the advantages of stingray development is their nocturnal behavior. Stingrays forage for food at night and avoid predators by burying themselves in substrates.
They grow and develop
The largest stingray, the short-tail stingray, can grow upwards of 2.1 m (6.9 ft) across. The pelagic stingray, which is one of the more common stingrays, can reach widths of 56 cm (23 in) in length when fully grown.
They grow and develop just like we do. They can grow up to 60ft.
