Perhaps 2 hours depending on temperature of the water, the size of the animal and the activity of the crocodile. The colder the water, which is unusual for animals that live in the tropics, and if they are not at all struggling, they have been recorded as living up to 2 hours under water. However, they have also been recorded as drowning in 20 to 30 minutes if they are struggling. Smaller crocodiles can not stay under water as long as larger ones.

A voluntary dive normally lasts no longer than 15 minutes, and usual dive times are around 4 to 6 minutes.
