Actually the answer above is way of the right answer cadets in either departments whether engine or deck. their duty is to assist the second in command 2nd engineer for engine cadets and i think 1st mate in deck cadets their purpose is to take job orders from their superiors and help them with their jobs more like all around worker but it depends on your superior's orders
