Hawks, like many other animals, try to go for the weaker prey like pregnant, old, sick, or babies. They also like to steal food from other animals after the other animals kills. The Hawk though is very strong and fast and can usual out run its prey, going at about 55mph when regularly flying and it's even faster when it dives down and grabs, or kills it prey at 120mph. So the chances that the Hawk is successful is good.
