Evolution says that everything alive changes over time so that only the strongest survive. For example, lets say a bird has a long narrow beak, and it can get to worms in the ground better than one that has a short stubby one. In this environment, where worms are the main food source, over thousands of years, the bird with the most food (the long narrow beak) will thrive, and reproduce more, and the one with the short, stubby one will not and will eventually die out. Thus the species evolved in this way.

Most scientists believe in evolution because it is the best answer we have right now from a scientific viewpoint.
