Good tank mates for a brown algae eater include peaceful community fish like tetras, guppies, and rasboras. Avoid aggressive or territorial fish that may compete for food or stress out the algae eater.

Nerite snails are a good option for algae control in a guppy tank. They are peaceful and don't harm guppies. Amano shrimp and Otocinclus catfish are also good choices as they eat algae and are generally compatible with guppies.

it doesn't really matter what kind of algae eater you get for the tank.In my experience with goldfish I've found that plecos work well although they get very big and will need to be kept in a very large tank.

the answer is yes---> Depending on the species, bottomfeeders and bettafish usually do get along. However, there are compatibility issues between some species. For instance, a Chinese Algae Eater is a more aggressive and independent bottomfeeder who would more than likely nip at your betta. The best option would be to stick with either snails, shrimp or a Siamese Algae Eater.
Convicts are very aggressive fish. You should just consider using something else to get rid of the algae. I'd suggest something like Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Algaefix which works wonders and has a good price.
