Depending on the animal that is trying to hide and from which predator, they can hide under big things...such as a mouse would hide under a log or in a bush if it senses a hawk, owl, other large bird overhead, but it is much harder for them to hide from a snake. Other animals rely on their COLORATION to blend in with their surroundings so predators cannot see them. BIOMIMICRY is also used as a means to avoid predation. Some of the sea creatures have most amazing techniques to avoid being dinner...everything from ink to toxic substances excreted through various body parts! Some even use electricity! Those latter would be more of a method to avoid being prey than actually hiding from a predator, but I think some predators would think twice before chowing down on an electric fish or eel.
