From New york ending in Maryland is the Chesapeake river. If someone polluted a

river up in New York, it would eventually run into the Chesapeake river and on into the Chesapeake bay. This action is called The Watershed. If to much pollution flows into the Chesapeake it can kill aquatic animals living in it's bay. Some of the animals living there are Terrapins, horseshoe crabs, multiple types of fish, jellyfish, some underwater snakes and worms, barnacle's, crabs and others. if we pollute the water the animals will die and the Chesapeake bay will become something called a Dead Zone. A Dead Zone has no living things in it. plants or fish. if their is nothing in the water for carnivorous animals to eat we may loose some of our important food source's. Terrapins were hunted and made into soup. then they became almost extinct so a law was passed so no one could hunt them. people in China still do it though. The only problem was that then people started accidentally catching them in their crab traps. scientists still haven't found a cure to that yet though. But they have started assigning them to certified teachers to bring them up until they are old enough to fend for them selfs. After, they release them on an island called poplar island. scientists have found a way to track them by putting a chip into their back leg to monitor it's progress. terrapins hatch from eggs on land then a sense tells them to go towards the ocean. animals eat the eggs and people step on them. Now scientists guard and tag the nests and eggs.
