Any animal that a carnivore hunts for food is considered prey. For the most part, any animal that isn't poisonous or the top predator in its ecosystem can be considered prey. Even the young of a top predator can be prey for other animals. Examples of prey animals include fish, non-poisonous insects, deer, rodents, birds (excluding Birds of Prey), lizards, etc.
