In order of menace numerically: Tied for first, feral dogs and coyotes. Next, wolves. Next, big cats- in America that means the puma or mountain lion, (American panther, Florida panther, etc) the occasional jaguar in the South-southwest. A bobcat might be able to take a kid, likewise a wolverine, a big marten or fisher might take a kid. Grizzly bears take meat animals, but if you've got grizzlies, move. Mainly, it's people who endanger your livestock most. The feral dogs are sometimes farm animals with a nasty hobby of packing together in their off hours and chasing deer and neighbor's animals. Near my home in rural New Hampshire, game wardens shoot dogs with collars and rabies tags for killing deer and goats on a regular basis. People shouldn't let dogs run free, not even on the farm. A park ranger gave me a lecture about hiking in grizzly territory. He told me to wear bells on my clothes, and carry a whistle and blow it once in a while, to let the bears know we were coming, so we wouldn't surprise one. He told us to carry strong red- pepper spray like Mace and shoot them if we had to. He showed us some big old poop on a trail, looked closely at it, smelled it and said, "No, that's black bear poop. You can tell by it's smaller size, and the fruit and seeds in it. It has a fruity smell, too." I asked him, "What does Grizzly poop look like?" He answered, "Well, it's bigger than this, smells like meat and red pepper, and it's full of little bells and whistles."
