Is Blanket Weed Edible?

Blanket weed, also known as filamentous algae or pondweed, is generally not considered edible for humans. Will a blanket weed remedy also stop green water?

When buying a remedy for blanket weed, I was told by the salesman that it would not cure the green water problem. Having used it and almost cleared the blanket weed, the water is still green. I have a further problem. My filter, a large basket with foam sponge and special fibre sheets, is now seething with minute worms. They seem to breed in the sludge in the filter. Anybody had this?
