catterpillars are insects
leaves
Why is the caterpillar considered a plant pest at that stage in its lifecycle? Because it eats our (human) food and thus destroys it.
First a catterpilar emerges from a egg after 7-14 day then it will start to grow and make a cocoon which they stay in for 1-2 weeks and out emerges a buttefly
a food chain always starts with a green plant and the arrows show which way the energy travels. e.g- oak tree- catterpilar- blue tit but also, if you properly did a food chain it would start with the sun.
