Superstition is the belief in a fable, myth or 'old wives tale'.

Many people believe four leaf clovers bring luck, or black cats are unlucky.

Other superstitions are part of poems or story's.

The magpie chant is the belief that seeing a certain number of magpies in a group will lead to diffident thing's happening; 'one for sorrow, two for joy, three for a girl, four for a boy...'
