The author of the outsiders is trying to say to the readers that stereotypes and social groups aren't worth it. that people should not get caught up in gibergaber of preps and cocks and nerds and slicks and emos
basically, what the author is trying to say is, don't fight, because something bad ALWAYS happens when a fight goes on. And also that nothing gold can never stay!!!

It depends on what book you are reading. Ex. If you are reading Cinderella the author is probably saying that even the poorest of the world end in a happy ending, or, even the poorest people around get things others don't. What I am trying to say is the author could say alot of things in a book.
