Woodlice are Isopods, (iso meaning same, and pod meaning foot) and are related to shrimp, crabs, lobsters and other crustacean critters. The main characteristics of woodlice (aka pillbugs, sowbugs, cheeselogs, chiggypigs etc.) are their dark grey or semi brown coloration, flattish bodies-curved bodies (this depends on the species), the ability to roll into a slight "C" shape or a full sphere. They predominately eat rotting plant matter and rarely attack healthy plants. Though they are more of a terrestrial isopod, their some species of woodlice that are aquatic. Some of these aquatic type are small, however 1.5 ft or 2.5 ft isopods reside in the depths of the ocean, devouring dead whales and other debris that floats down from the upper levels of the ocean.
