In the Great Plains, transportation historically included horse-drawn wagons and later, railroads, which were crucial for moving goods and people across the vast landscapes. With the expansion of the 19th century, the railroad network became a vital link for settlers and traders, facilitating trade and communication. In the modern era, highways and automobiles dominate transportation in the region, connecting rural areas to urban centers.
