Technically, an unfertilized egg is not alive. Since this question is in regard to

chickens...the egg itself will develop normally and will be laid by the hen. The

unfertilized egg will begin to rot during incubation whereas a fertilized egg will start

to develop into a chick.

How does a egg die?

An egg can "die" or become non-viable through several processes, primarily if it is not fertilized or if it deteriorates due to environmental factors. If an egg is fertilized but not properly incubated, the developing embryo can die. Additionally, exposure to extreme temperatures, bacteria, or mold can cause the egg to spoil, rendering it lifeless. In a broader sense, "death" in an egg context refers to the cessation of potential for development and life.
