Mountain gorillas would likely be more harmed by environmental change that wiped out one of their habitat areas compared to raccoons. This is because mountain gorillas have a more limited and specialized habitat in dense forests of the Virunga Mountains, making them more vulnerable to habitat loss. Raccoons, on the other hand, are highly adaptable and can thrive in a variety of environments, including urban areas, allowing them to recover more easily from habitat disruptions.

Most likely a Raccoon Dog. I know how crazy that sounds but such a creature really does exist. I am quite sure of it seeing as Raccoon Dogs are originally from Asia. If you look up "Raccoon Dogs" on Wikipedia, you can see a pic of them and clarify that that is the animal you saw.
The animal is a Red Panda.

Raccoons are essentially the garbage men of the animal kingdom, meaning they will eat anything that does not move too fast or fight back too hard. As the raccoon's habitat is the continental US (with exceptions in Nevada, Utah, Arizona, and the eastern edge of California--see the related link Raccoon Habitat map below), they likely are very familiar with scorpions who live from Florida to California and Texas to British Columbia (see the related link Scorpion habitat map below).
