Why do animals hibarnate?

Animals hibernate as an adaptation to their climate. In the extreme cold climates, animals would not be able to find food in order to survive, so they have adapted to this by hibernating.

Animals that hibernate store up body fat by eating a great deal of food during the end of summer and fall months of the year. This way, they can literally live off of their body fat during the winter as they hibernate.

Some animals such as northern bears, hibernate in the winter because there is a lot less available food. They eat a lot of fatty food in the fall so that their body fat will increase (for energy and warmth) and their heart rate and breathing slows. It is a survival instinct that God instilled in them to survive periods of harsh weather and low food supply.
