Why would you want to slaughter horses, they are the finest animals I know. Back then they used horses for transportation. Now they use horses for races and competition. So that would be the cruelest thing I have heard of.

Horse meat is eaten in many countries. It is very nutritious and it is no better or worse slaughtering horses for food than any other animal.

The Process:

This is done basically in the same way that cows are slaughtered..

Using either one of the 2 most humane methods approved by the USDA.

Either a firearm of at least 38 caliber or an air powered gun that fires a 1/2 inch steel bolt.

The animal is confined,then the round/bolt is fired into the center of the animals head causing death. Immediately after the round/bolt is delivered the throat of the animal is cut horizontally to allow the animal to bleed out..

The animal is then steam washed to remove fluids,debris ect from the animals hide,the animal is then hung vertically by the back legs and the process of skinning(removing the hide) begins.

Once the hide is removed a vertical incission is made in the flesh beginning at the pelvis and following down to and through the center of the rib cage..Then all of the internal organs and intestines are removed,The carcass is then washed with clean water to remove blood and any debris.The carcass is then cut in half vertically following down the center of the spine using a saw similar to a chainsaw.

Then the 2 halves are ready for cold storage for an aging process or divided in to selected cuts of meat.
