From what I heard you get up to 10 years, and a big fine. But really it depends on the amount of abuse. Lets say you have a dog who is really skinny and you give it up to the SPCA willingly, and you admit to what you have done, the judge will probably be a little bit nicer to you and you fine won't be as big. But let's say you abused your animal by torturing it, not feeding it and not providing health care for it until it died then you'll probably get some really big charges and lots of jail time.
