A puppy from a puppy mill is more likely to have illness or parasites from the other dogs. It will probably have fleas or lice. The dieseases could spread to you, but are more likely to hurt the dog. If a dog is bought from a suspected puppy mill, do these things.
1. Call and ask the owner about health. Some puppy mill owners will give false documents or words. Get real proof from a vet.
2. If it is a puppy mill, turn it in to the police. Puppy mills are illegal.
3. Get the dog proper vaccinations and treatments.
4. Enjoy puppy.

From an irresponsible breeder or puppy mill!
To report a puppy mill to the authorities, you can contact your local animal control agency, the police, or the Humane Society. Provide as much information as possible, such as the location of the puppy mill, the conditions of the animals, and any other relevant details. Reporting a puppy mill can help protect the animals and hold the owners accountable for their actions.

A rescue! most dogs in pet stores come from a puppy broker and he got his dogs from a puppy mill. I recommend the National Mill Dog Rescue. I volunteer at the shelter. It's in Colorado.
A dog/puppy from a pet store or puppy mill may or may not have genetic defects, you would have to check with your vet, but if you have not already bought your puppy, I suggest you adopt from an animal shelter. The animals are much healthier and you get the background of the dog or puppy before you adopt.
