After giving up so much, he ultimately ends up sacrificing his own life and leaving behind an unborn son. In the end, his undying love for Annie and heart-wrenching transformation from a fierce man with an unbreakable veneer to a fragile boy ruined by the Capitol demonstrates that even broken people will fight to protect everyone they love and everything they believe in.
